Default Question about how to do FOW

Last night was the 2nd time I tried FOW, and I think it went pretty well. But I am really confused as to what you are supposed to do down there. I'd like to ask this in this forum because its too expensive and too difficult (getting a group together - no henchies allowed) for experimentation.

My basic problem was that the group I was in were all veterans, and just took off from quest to quest with me just tagging along and helping. No one took the time to explain what was going on and who to talk to. I found out from my first visit to FOW that you should NOT talk to the ghost NPC who you find at the start location. But what happens if you do? Should you talk to him after you clear out the mobs in that area?

What happened in my case last night is that I wound up not talking to any of the NPC's with explanation marks over their heads (didn't want to do anything wrong) and found out too late that this is what the rest of the team was doing. So I missed out on all the experience points for doing the quests that we accomplished.

Anyone care to give a little "FOW 101" instruction?

Well if you need XP then talk to the NPCs. When I go there, it's just for the good drops. I care nothing for XP or skill points. I've got more than I'll ever use now.

If you were wanting to know the story down there. I have no idea, maybe someone else can answer that one. I do know you have to do a few of the quests in order to get the Fissure armor.

i'm glad that you're actually patient and taking the time to learn about this.

basically, the first time that you should talk to an npc is after you clear the first "room" where a chest appears and the ghost balthanoob stands next to it. talk to him to get the quest, and then talk to him again to get the reward. you basically completed the quest before you took it.

however, nothing beats experience. if you're unsure about something, feel free to ask your party when you should talk to an npc. provided that you don't have a jerk on the team, they should be helpful about letting you know when and when not to talk to any npc's.

Well fow is just a good experiance and place to be for shards, exp, FOW armor, and quests. Just like the UW, FOW isn't easy soo you have to communicate well and listen. Also take it slow. You will get used to it after a while. But hopefully after all of these posts you will have a good idea and just have fun!

The map for FOW is here. http://www.gwonline.net/images/carto...sureofwoes.php .
The chest at the 1st quest give any items? My 1st trip to FOW ended at Wailing Lord quest because we killed the Wailing Lord.

Probably the best advice I can give is to keep an eye on the radar, and study the patrol patterns carefully. Fights are a lot easier (especially in the later areas) when you're fighting mobs of 5-6 as opposed to 10-12.

And watch the ceilings when you see Doubter's Dryder.

Hi and thanks for the tips!

A good party will take the time and explain things, of course. In my case, everyone seemed to know what was going on and also seemed to be in a hurry (Europe was about to lose the favor and the hour was late on a weeknight!) so I was a bit intimidated to let them know I had no idea what to do.

I am also used to playing an area first with henchies so I can take my time and explore around (make all the dumb mistakes by myself) but of course this is not an option in FOW or UW.

Thanks again!
